You can't get away from beat in this music. But so what? It's still satisfying music, pleasing to listen to, with little twists and turns that make it much more than Muzak or pop pablum. They are albums of composed music that in tonalities and cadences has a good deal in common with jazz but that in its creation, preceded or ran parallel with early jazz. These are not -emphasis, NOT-jazz albums. On neither of these albums do solos, other than the piano bridges, a prominent element.
